The Brisbane Scene

When I came out in 2007, I went straight to the Brisbane gay scene and frequented the three venues that everyone else did. Previous to that, I had never entered a gay venue except when I lived in Rockhampton between 1986-1988. Back then they had really cheap drinks during their “happy hour” on Fridays, but I was in there as a straight man at that time. I felt totally at home from 2007 onwards at The Sportsman Hotel (Sporties), The Wickham and The Beat Megaclub. Unfortunately though, in 2010, dancing to one of my favourites, I thought I was Superman and jumped off a dance podium totally destroying my right ankle and had to be carted off to the Royal Brisbane Hospital for surgery.
